In a heavenly perspective, suggested by the many silver stars on the brownish background of the embroidery, as well as by the presence, in the corners of the upper registers, of the sun and the moon, the scene of the lowering into the tomb is presented. Jesus lying on the Red Stone of Ephesus occupies the central part of the composition. At his head, on a high stool, Virgin Mary mourns, slightly bent over her son’s head. At his feet, two sanctimonious women mourn, the first kissing the Saviour’s feet.
