The Annunciation altar door curtain

XVth century (June 13 1483(?))

The Annunciation altar door curtain
It is embroidered with golden and silver threads and coloured silk, on a background of blue silk, that is still visible inside the border and the letters that form the inscriptions, lined with cotton linen in vegetal colours.

With the right hand, the archangel blesses the Virgin, while in his left hand he holds a lily, with a long stem and a stylised flower. A cross with double arms is rising from its calyx. Two characters from the Old Testament - king David and king Solomon - are portrayed in the background, in the upper register. They both hold in their hands scrolls with inscriptions in Slavonic on which the following words can be read: ’So said the Lord, My God.’ (on the scroll in David’s hand) and "(Wisdom) has built itself a home" (on the scroll held by Solomon).
