The Crucifixion altar door curtain

August 10 1500

The Crucifixion altar door curtain
It is embroidered with a golden, silver and coloured silk thread on an original background of red silk. There is a double lining of cotton linen of a blue colour and a natural one.

On a red background, sprinkled with silver stars, the dramatic scene of the Crucifixion is presented. Rigurously structured on the two arms of the cross, which take up the majority of the space, lending order to the composition, this work of art is impressive in its monumentality, in the solemn grandeur of the characters, whose painful, yet restrained feelings are expressed with noble dignity.
