The icon is almost entirely covered with silver plates, adorned with floral and geometrical stylisations, in the au repousse technique. Profoundly humane, painted in warm, enveloping hues of dark brown, the figure of Mary is noble, harmonious and young, but grieving and resigned at the same time, as she is confronted with the vision of her crucified son.
