Maria of Mangop's tombstone

1477

A work of remarkable artistic harmony, in the style of German and Italian Renaissance, Maria of Mangop’s tombstone is set on a pedestal adorned with Gothic motifs. The decoration of the tombstone consists of two flower stems in high relief and slightly rounded, which intertwine in the middle and then part to the borders almost in a circle, forming two medallions, from which other branches in leaf, part to the inside and outside of the medallions. The inside branches are heart-shaped, while on the upper side of the tombstone, two birds enliven the whole scene, sitting on either side of the supple curves of the flowers and pecking at their corollas.
