The Anonymous Psalm Book, also known as ‘The Great’

XVth century

A masterpiece of Romanian medieval calligraphy, this psalm book is written on thick paper, waxed and filigreed with the image of a bishop’s mitre of globular shape, its base decorated with a row of crosses. Both the calligraphic style and the decorations are distinguished by their discrete elegance and good taste, by their refined sumptuousness, specific to all artistic traditions from the age of Stephen the Great.
