As Putna Monastery expanded its hospitality through the construction of three guesthouses, the need for a dedicated space to provide meals to the increasing number of pilgrims became essential. From the perspective of monastic tradition, the most important quality such a space must embody is honoring the guests. In this spirit, and following the teaching of Saint Pachomius the Great, the founder of communal monastic life, the monastery has strived to ensure that every pilgrim is received “according to the honor and dignity of each.”
This is how the idea of building the “Holy Hierarch Nicholas” Social House was born. The project was made possible with the financial support of the National Investment Company. On March 12, 2021, Mr. Cseke Attila, Minister of Development, Public Works, and Administration, was present at Putna Monastery for the signing of the construction contract. The agreement was signed by Ms. Manuela Pătrășcoiu, General Director of the National Investment Company, and the winning contractor, Simeon Construct. The project was completed at the end of June 2023.
The building includes two spacious dining halls with a combined capacity of approximately 300 seats: the “Saint Stephen the Great” Hall and the “Saint Jacob of Putna” Hall, each equipped with its own kitchen and supporting facilities to ensure smooth operation.
Given the monastery’s ongoing cultural activities, the building also includes a dedicated space for such events: the “Archimandrite Bartholomew Măzăreanu” Conference Hall. The purpose of this establishment is to help harmonize and balance the physical and spiritual needs of those who enter the monastery, in the spirit of the Gospel commandments and the order of monastic life.
