Saint Gennadius

Saint Gennadius

Saint Gennadius’ head is kept at Putna Monastery. In 1488, Stephen the Great laid his relics in the monastery, mounted in a golden crown.

The crown does not explain more about the saint’s identity. After 1990, many miracles have been made through these relics, and that is why they are on display to be honored by the faithful in the exonarthex of the princely church.

The inscription on Saint Gennadius’ crown

“Io Voivode Stephen, by the grace of God, Prince of Moldavia, hath this head of Saint Gennadius mounted and placed at Putna Monastery in the year 6996 <1488>, the 1st of May.”

Saint Gennadius’s relics were offered to the Putna Monastery by Stephen the Great.
