During Stephen the Great’s time, the bell tower was in the northwestern corner of the monastery precincts. It was demolished some time between 1850 and 1856.

Since 2016, the Bell Tower has kept the new bells of the Putna Monastery.
The present-day bell tower is on the eastern side of the precincts and was built out of brick in Romanic style in 1822, while Archim. Desiderius Cozub was abbot.
